JetBrains has released preliminary findings from their 2026 Developer Ecosystem Survey that reveal a dramatic transformation in the AI coding tools market, with Claude Code achieving unprecedented dominance while established players face significant challenges. The comprehensive study, conducted between April and May 2026 with participation from more than 15,000 developers globally, provides crucial insights into how AI coding agents have evolved from experimental technologies to indispensable components of professional software development.
The survey data demonstrates that AI coding assistance has reached mainstream adoption, with an overwhelming 90 percent of professional developers incorporating AI coding agents into their work routines at least weekly. More significantly, 68 percent of developers now use these tools daily, indicating that AI assistance has become integral to the software development process rather than an occasional supplement.
